Who knew the grocery store could be such a scary place?

My first several trips to the grocery store post allergy discovery were daunting. Between checking labels and combing each aisle for gluten free, dairy free, and soy free items I usually left the store with 3 things and a rumbling in my tummy. My first trip to Whole Foods was a disaster as I quickly discovered that several items I'd looked forward to- rice ice cream, gluten free cookies and bread mix- all had soy as a main ingredient. I teared up on more than one occasion and began to feel like my life would forever revolve around what I couldn't eat. One Friday night in those first few weeks I told my husband I'd like to go to Outback Steakhouse to try their gluten free menu. Yeah, I'm for real. Outback. Anyway, we quickly realized that everybody and their mother go to Outback on Friday nights, although I suspect it is not for the gluten free menu. As we frantically racked our brains for another option (sushi was out as we'd already eaten it twice that week) I began to whine. My sweet husband (who thought he was being cute) asked me if I wanted some cheese with my whine. And in my head I'm screaming- "No, a**hole, I want some cheese to go with all the wine I'm drinking to make up for the calories I'm lacking from not being able to eat cheese!!!"
